The other week, a family friend asked if I had ever used the gym at my previous apartment. My response was, “No,” as most of you have realized by now I like working out outside when I can. If the weather is too unpleasant, I sometimes used my balcony or my garage.
Minimalist fitness gives me the freedom to do things where I don’t have to worry about needing much. It can give you that freedom as well. If the average person knew how to modify bodyweight movements to their current capabilities or any of the other minimalist approaches, this world would be a much healthier place. Not just in body but in mind, for there are things in this world affecting our mind.
“Perry had initiated the investigation and observation during the course of his general medical practice that people living near high-voltage transmission lines appeared to suffer from a higher than normal incidence of depressive mental illness.” (P 52 “Currents Of Death”)
This is from a book by Paul Brodeur exploring the effects of man-made electromagnetic fields on various aspects of our health. Since our bodies are electric, outside influences can affect or degrade them kind of like being jammed...
A possible solution is to minimize our time around this stuff. I would argue that this is the best solution. But based on our location or occupation, we will not be able to engage in this and become a partial Luddite. There is another opinion that I would describe as putting on electric armor.
“Its effects on the nervous system is specially to be noted in the case of those who suffer from fear or timidity, who stammer in their speech, or are prone to make grimaces, or lack proper control of the face or body. But its chief importance is the tone it gives to the whole of the physical system, which enables it to bear the strain incident upon mental concentration, and at the same time to quicken the wit.” (P 165, Sandow’s System of Physical Training )
During the times of physical culture, “Neurasthenia,” a condition of the nerves was something that was popping up. It was pretty much anxiety on a level that humanity had never seen before, and there were many approaches to dealing with it.
“The presence of Tannin, Caffeine, Nicotine or Alcohol in the blood, hinders the processes of elimination and are separately or collectively frequent causes of neurasthenia.” (P 12 Maxick, How To Become A Great Athlete)
Many of the old-time strongmen saw physical training as a way to combat this anxiety. By training in an energy-efficient manner, you’ll be storing your muscles with the energy that can be used not just for performance records in the gym but for other functions in the body. Especially mental functions.
“The reasons for storing energy are manifold, but indicate first and foremost, the possibility of future action. Energy would be quite unnecessary were it not for the idea of action and its subsequent use.” (Maxick, 1911)
However, there was something in their environment back then that was the most likely culprit of their anxiety which has continued to increase since then….
Fitness will provide us with a chance to operate more efficiently in this electric environment. So, if you can’t separate yourself from this world that has the ability to turn you into Eeyore from Winnie The Pooh, you can at least strengthen your body in some ways.
One of the best ways to work out in a way that builds up energy instead of taking it away is through what are called micro workouts. It’s just short bursts of training throughout the day. If you don’t feel refreshed or great afterward you’re going too hard.
“If after you exercise, your bath and your rub-down, you feel fit to battle for a kingdom, then your schedule is right. ” (p 150 Liedeman Secrets of Strength 1925)
Although you find research on the topic of workouts being an anti-depressant a few decades back, the lockdowns helped to create a new surge in research of this nature.
Darkness brings out the light.
Being isolated from almost everyone and being in fear of getting sick can weigh heavily on anyone. Add man-made EMF into the mix, and this weight will be made heavier. I wonder how much better we would be off if people had spent more time outside away from our gadgets and entertainment…
But if you don’t want to work out with any of the stuff I show, walking is the next best thing. Going on a brisk walk for 20 to 30 minutes can be a great thing for the mind. If you’re in a concrete jungle, frequent walking could be a path to shrug off most negative emotions. Blood flow and muscle contractions are a powerful medicine.
The Mind Muscle Connection, & Slow Reps
Speaking of outside, this past week had more bearable weather, so I took the opportunity to train outside a little more. The world can be your gym. Unless something happens, I can’t see us being charged money for simply walking outside. I talk a great deal about muscle contractions and the mind-muscle connection. But developing it and getting a sense of it can be a difficult thing. Other than strength, control, and muscle… going slower with your repetitions can help you get a better sense of which muscles are firing. How slow is up to you. I find two the three seconds down and two to three seconds up work for me.
A better mind-muscle connection is not only a path to better strength, it is also a path to being more in tune with one’s body.
Thank you for stopping by and reading my ramblings. Take care…
The Nerve
It’s interesting looking at some of these videos on AI governance and finding out people’s “Why” behind pushing this stuff. One of the “Whys” I’ve heard is that this helps capitalism. Not Ma and Pa Shop capitalism, but the Crony/Neo-Feudalist capitalism helping Amazon to earn even more money.
I guess it comes down to what our purpose is here on earth. Each belief system/paradigm has its answer. For some of these AI fanboys, I’m not sure if there is one other than making a profit. For other AI fanboys, it’s either to make the world a “safer” place or to make the world a “healthier” place. If these folks knew there was more to this world than what they can see and touch, I wonder if they’d be so focused on AI.
In the video above, near the end, the woman being interviewed stated that this AI governance was going to march forward regardless of who was in office which is what I believe as well. We needed to jump into AI for national security, which echoes our build-up of nuclear weapons post-WW2. The difference is that nuclear weapons can’t monitor us or fidget with the algorithm in an effort to modify the behavior of the populace. Nor were they ever designed to diagnose disease…
The role of emerging technologies like AI, ML, Deep Learning, IoT and Robotics is gaining importance in handling such data using various algorithms. Each of these algorithms has a large number of applications in the healthcare domain, including decision on appropriate treatment journeys, analysis of medical reports, making informed clinical decisions, assistance in operational tasks at hospitals, tracking of vital signs, detection of diseases at an early stage and so on. (Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Medicine and Modern Healthcare Systems )
I wouldn’t be surprised if the “and so on” included enacting medical treatments. It would be the next logical step. At least if it were me(turning the map around) that’s what I’d do.
“These advancements raise the prospect of deploying fully autonomous surgical robots in the near future into challenging environments such as the battlefield, disaster areas, and even extraplanetary exploration. In light of these transformative developments, it is clear that the future of surgery will belong to those who can most readily embrace and harness the power of AI.” (The Future of Artificial Intelligence in Surgery)
Another difference between AI and nuclear weapons is the power requirements. I wonder how all this stuff will be powered.
Hopefully, the “And more” is not us. That would be wild, as the kids say. Like something out of the Matrix. This would correspond with the theory that movies are there to desensitize us for the things to come.
Anyway, seems like an AI-controlled world is coming no matter what. AI governance would make things more efficient, they say.
Yes, the federal government here in the US is decreasing, is what’s replacing it going to uplift humanity, or suppress it?
Is the proposed solution to our problem another trojan horse like the covid-19 vaccine?
Thank you for making it all the way to the end. Have a good evening.
Take care…
Interesting about the term anxiety. Seems it's an indication that something is off, in the external environment or something in your personal life (not just a 'mental illness').
I never hated Eeyore, it was that grouchy rabbit that bugged me.
