If we lived in an agrarian or hunter-gatherer society all my talk about fitness would be pointless.
However, we live in a time where for most, our lifestyle and environmental toxins wear down the body more than at any other time in human history but there are many things we can do.
Heck, there’s been a drastic change in just the past few decades….
There weren’t many in my high school that could do this. Thanks to a pull-bar gift my parents gave me in middle school, I might have barely survived something like this. However, I must add that the purpose of this stuff in the early 60s was to provide more able-bodied men for what was to come. I’m surprised they haven’t tried something like this again. Maybe get a bunch of fitness influencers to motivate your average high school kid to get away from the video games and go outside.
In addition to that video, one can find old photos of the beach around this time with everybody being at a healthy weight. This healthy weight corresponds with the low concentration of seed oils in their diet compared to animal fats. This has since been Uno-reversed. But other toxins have increased as well.
During our certification studies for personal training as well as onboarding at whatever gym we choose to work at we were repeatedly told how exercise is a protective factor against any health problems currently or down the road.
Although all this training was geared toward getting folks in the door and giving the gym their money, I still believe this. However, I’ve found myself slowly having to unlearn the things I had to study for my certification, which I never placed a great deal of trust in to begin with. I felt it necessary to unlearn most of the things I was taught from a young age whats one more?
The efficiency/strength of our nerves, connective tissues, muscles, etc can make a huge difference. Like all things, there is a simpler and more direct way.
To start strengthening one’s body won’t require much. A great deal of equipment is not necessary heck you don’t really have to move(isometrics). But if you do want to move reps of wall push-ups or getting up from the couch can be turned into a little session.
Progressive Calisthenics was my first love. Yeah, I did weightlifting in highschool but I never enjoyed it as much as I do this. Isometrics like overcoming(OCIs) and muscle control can provide a strong foundation for muscle contraction and connective tissue strength. I also enjoy the weightlessness/John Carter on Mars feelings these give me.
But taking a bodyweight exercise and ramping it up to 10 or back down to 1 can provide some good coordination. Also, I just like to move from time to time. Executing or improving a movement can give you some satisfaction. A high degree of control amidst all the madness. In this sense, it’s a little more measurable than isometrics as with the latter one has to go on feeling.
There are exceptions to all this though as if we were in a low-tech society. The more manual labor/moving stuff around that you do, the less you need to train.
That boss I mentioned near the end of my other post was one of those people you see who get strong off of manual labor. This strength is more driven by one’s connective tissues like fascia and tendon vs muscles. This is why I like to make my training hybrid to create a better and more holistic strength than one just for the pull-up bars.
Interestingly enough in ancient Rome the recruits from the countryside were put on a faster track to becoming soldiers than city boys. The ones from the countryside would probably be used to harsher environments as well as manual labor which would be crucial for how the Romans fought war.
However, without the foundation of the years prior, certain tasks would have been more difficult with this job, and certain aches/pains would have been more prevalent. I still worked out but it was shorter maybe 10 to 15 minutes of calisthenics or OCIs in the morning or upon my return granted it was still light outside. My schedule for training during this time molded into what were called, “Microwrkouts.” Workouts that are short enough for you to get on with your day but stimulating enough to continue in your progress. The older I get the more I realize how much more beneficial these microworkouts are vs the all-out 30-1hr session.
Someone - “Older?!?!?!? You’re barely even 40.”
Hard to Kill
That’s what all my training was geared towards back when my world was simpler. Physical fitness was a huge part of this. A 6-minute-mile run or 4.3 second 40-yard Dash isn’t going to help you defeat a tank but it will make a difference in person-on-person in urban combat.
But what does this have to do with now?
Well, the things our government or who/whatever is in control are doing is suspicious. Some would call it a “Silent War.” A stronger populace would be better able to deal with the things that might come unless it’s some type of device that alters our thinking….
…but even then our training might give us a chance.
Thus it will be observed that the controlling of the muscles reacts upon the mind and strengthens the mental powers in exactly the same proportion that the control of the muscles strengthens the body and limbs.” (P 21, Maxick, Muscle Control)
Clout Hub
Thank you to those who answered the survey or left a comment in regards to me hosting a minimalist fitness Zoom call. Sorry for forgetting about yall from down under…
I was looking around for alternatives and heard about “Clout Hub” from Todd Callender. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Other than using my phone there are prerequisites for livestreaming on Youtube and Rumble.
Worse case scenario I could just keep making videos where I try to talk into a camera. #acousticweaponry
Let me know…and have a great weekend!!!!
The following is for entertainment purposes only.
Someone - “& the above wasn’t?”
Announcer - “Meanwhile at the Hall Of Reeducation!!!!!!!!!”
Minion - “Sir!!!!!! We’re trying to use mind control based on our US5036858A patent on this dissident/hella-awkward online fitness coach from Texas. It’s not working Sir!!!!”
*Hurried footsteps. The camera focuses on the shoes and it pans up to reveal the face.*
Yuval Harari - “Have you turned up the power?!?!?”
Minion - “Yes Sir but it’s had no effect. He still has a high degree of control in terms of movement and thought patterns.”
Yuval Harari - “Impossible. He must engage in some type of training to master his….”
*Turns face to camera* “…Nerve and Muscle”
*Roll Credits*
"I’m surprised they haven’t tried something like this again." - All Droid Military is pending- MuskBots & Autonomous fighting vehicles are ready to go. No need for Ze fit humans.
