“Back in my day…. putting on cami paint was a T&R(Training & Readiness) event”

My friend would say jokingly about the older Marines in our unit reminiscing about the old days.

We all like to reminisce about better times(or perceived better times) and I look at fitness the same way…

From a 1950 Maxalding Brochure thanks again J.P.

For several decades there existed a system where folks, through a few quality muscle contractions per day, could become well-developed, strong, and resistant to disease. The improved circulation of blood and the increased energy(contractile capabilities) in our muscles, that came with this system(Maxalding), can do more than people realize.

However, the fitness industrial complex during this time worked tirelessly to train our focus(no pun intended) on the massive & chemically enhanced figures lifting weights inside a gym until they were on the floor in a pool of sweat barely able to breathe.

Our bodies are well made. Some aspects of modern science around the human body distract us from this reality

But with these massive figures on stage, you see them flexing their muscles intensely for long periods of time. Sometimes they pass out due to the exertion.

Why Do Bodybuilders Faint On Stage ...
Collapsing due to exhaustion

Maxalding, what came before is wildly different from this. Yes on the surface they might look the same but beneath it’s

  • Night Vs Day…

  • Light Vs Dark

  • Black…

From “Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood”
  • Vs White…

As with some things, the later version is a degraded version of what was first introduced. What was a way to improve the human body became a method of performance in a beauty pageant. What was guided by

  • Concentration

  • Stimulation

  • & Relaxation

is now guided by

  • Intensity

  • & Dehydration(To look more defined)

But I’m hoping to make some of the old ways cool again and known to all.

“Coax the muscles, do not force them. If undue force be used in an effort to secure quick results, the muscles will toughen, and your object will be defeated.” - (P 22 Maxick, Muscle Control)
